New Feature: Staff Summer Reads @ Wardman Library

June 28th, 2012 by libuser

Ahhhhh, summer reading! Don’t know about you, but I simply cannot turn down a trashy (auto)biography or coming-of-age novel during this sun-drenched period of bliss! We will be sharing our summer reads here and hope you will join the conversation and share your summer picks with us as well.

Kathy F. kicks off this new feature with her recently finished read of Mr. Fox by Helen Oyeyemi, in which she describes it as “one of the strangest books I’ve ever read.  Fascinating because it morphs as you read it (as do the characters themselves).”

Well, I’m intrigued! Kathy used Link+ to borrow this interesting read from one of our lending libraries. Feel free to use this service for any book you may be searching for.

ALA 2012: Transforming Our Libraries, Ourselves

June 28th, 2012 by libuser

The American Library Association held its annual conference and exhibition at the Anaheim Convention Center over the past weekend. ALA reported a total of 14,640 attendees with 5,381 exhibitors showcasing their products and services. Library professionals, administrators, staff, and students gathered from all over the world to attend programs and poster sessions, visit the booths, meet new library folks and visit with old acquaintances.

The Wardman Library director, librarians, and instructional media designer joined in the fun as well. There were tons of freebies, interactive demos, games, prizes, and raffles to partake in. Author signings and notable speakers always draw big crowds with names like George R.R. Martin, JR Martinez, Sapphire, Jodi Picoult, Dan Rather, John Irving, and Henry Winkler, pictured here with our very own Lauren Poelvoorde.
